Story Cloth: A Visual Storytelling Workshop
Story Cloth is a form of non-verbal self expression that can depict experiences of joy, inspiration and healing. It is a creative way to pass on family stories, recovered dream imagery, or make political statements. Many cultures around the world have put their stories on cloth for generations. Experiences of trauma or grief, that may be hard to express in words, can also be stitched into cloth in an easily understood language of personal expression.
Workshop Format
In this day-long workshop we will experiment with the art of storytelling through textiles, fabrics, and other craft materials. A one hour lunch break will be provided. Materials will be available at the studio, however, participants are encouraged to bring fabric trimmings, embroidery floss, buttons, beads, nature materials, etc. (that may or may not have sentimental meaning) to use and/or to share. This workshop does not require any sewing or textile experience. Open to all.
